Stock markets that lost heavily at the end
March 23: Early gains in domestic stock markets evaporate. The Sensex, which had gained heavily in the beginning, finally lost 304 points. The 30-share index Sensex, which had lost over 400 points intraday on the back of gaining bookings in banking, financial and IT stocks, finally closed at 57,684.82. It lost 304.48 points compared to yesterday’s close. The NSE Nifty also lost 69.85 points to close at 17,245.65.
29 of the 30-share indexes lost ground.
HDFC Shares lost over two percent to become the top loser. Kotak Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Asian Paints and Infosys failed to impress investors.
Dr Reddy’s, Tata Steel and ITC benefited.
Sector-wise, banking, financial, auto and industrial stocks rose.
Crude oil rose 2 percent to $ 117.80 a barrel.
The rupee had lost 24 paise to close at 76.42 against the dollar in yesterday’s trade.
