NMDC: Annual production of iron ore at a record 40 million tons

Public sector mineral producer NMDC has set a new record in annual production. NMDC said on Saturday that it had produced 40 million tonnes of iron ore so far in the current financial year (2021-22). The Steel Ministry said in a statement that NMDC was the largest producer of iron ore in the country in a single financial year. The company produced 35 million tonnes in the last financial year (2020-21). NMDC, on the other hand, produced only 4 million tonnes in 1969-70. It reached an annual production of ten million tonnes in 1977-78. Production was 20 million tonnes in 2004-05 and 30 million tonnes in the following decades. Now it has reached 40 million tonnes. It has set a production target of 100 million tonnes per annum by 2030. On the occasion, NMDC Chairman and Managing Director Sumit Deb congratulated the staff and said that despite all the difficulties, a record level of production has been recorded.

NMDC has entered into an agreement with IIT-Kharagpur to explore ores through the use of drones. Officials of both companies signed the MoU in a virtual manner. In addition to iron ore, NMDC also produces minerals such as copper, rock phosphate, limestone, magnesite, diamond, tungsten, and beach sand.
